Inspired by the philosophy of integral living, the Cultural Integration Fellowship (CIF) was founded in 1951 by Dr. Haridas Chaudhuri and Mrs. Bina Chaudhuri as a center of universal religion and spiritual practice. Honoring the spiritual traditions of diverse cultures and religions, CIF promotes the interchange of ideas between the cultures of east and west, creating a greater sense of cross cultural harmony and world peace.

This year we are privileged to honor G S Sachdev for extraordinary and distinguished service enriching culture and society. G S Sachdev and Mrs. Saroj Sachdev have been good, long-time friends of Haridas and Bina Chaudhuri and have contributed significantly to our programs here at CIF.

G S Sachdev is recognized worldwide as a master flutist and is one of the premier performers on this traditional instrument. The depth of emotion he evokes from a simple length of bamboo is truly awe-inspiring. G S Sachdev is the inheritor of this 2000 year old tradition. Unlike many musicians, he has shied away from fusion, finding a sense of immense satisfaction within pure classical Indian music.

G S Sachdev has made a large contribution to the growing awareness in the west of classical Indian music. Mr. Sachdev was invited by Ali Akbar Khan Sahib to teach at Ali Akbar College of Music in 1970. He produced a world music radio show and conducted a “Music of India Master class.” His world tours and recordings have won him many laurels and made him an internationally renowned legend respected by musicians and audiences in all realms of world music today. He has been awarded Shiromani Sangeetkar of 2008 by Government of Punjab, India.
